What can cause high testosterone levels in women other than pcos? I have elevated levels of testosterone but my doctor had a lot of tests done and said that I do not have PCOS, (an ultrasound showed that I did not have any cysts) my question is what else could cause this and is it going to make it harder for me to get pregnant in the future?

Abnormally high testosterone levels in women can lead to a variety of symptoms. Most often, women with high testosterone levels develop male pattern hair growth (hirsutism), especially on their faces and chests. More rarely and over time, some women may experience virilization, which is increased muscle mass, redistribution of body fat, enlargement of the clitoris, deepening of the voice, male pattern baldness, acne, and/or increased perspiration. It is important to note that some women develop hirsutism without having a high testosterone level.
I am not sure if weight gain comes with high testosterone.

What are side effects of high testosterone in women? I am TTC and saw my normal endocrinologist today (not an RE) because I had big issues with my insulin & blood sugar. Well that is pretty much under control but the last bloodwork I had said my testosterone levels are like double what they should be. She says my metformin should bring that down but I don't think it is.... what are some side effects of such a high level in a woman?

I questioned my doctor about doing my next round of clomid but she says to continue because the clomid could help bring it down, I just have my doubts about that.

I base this question on the fact that I heard a comment from a woman while watching a women's poker match on television a few weeks ago. In this match, one of the female poker players was being interviewed, and I recall her mentioning that she and the other female players at the table had "higher levels of testosterone" than the average woman -- implying that her notion is based on the fact that they love playing competitive poker; what is usually seen as being a "man's sport".
How much truth do you think there is to her statement?

But, I was the tree-climbing sort of kid, got into fights a lot at school, get on better with boys, and chick flicks make me *cringe*. I really, really disliked my body changing in puberty.
